Self Reflection
I read a quote on Instagram earlier this week by +StephanSpeaks and it said the following; "Your relationship with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship you have."
I agree with this quote 100%. I want to add that when you don't know where you, where you want to be, and what your values are, then it becomes difficult to figure out where everyone is going to stand in relation to where you are. It becomes difficult for you to even set up boundaries because you don't know what your values are or what you're aiming for in life. In order to know what roles people are supposed to play in your life, you need to know what it is that you need from them. A lot of times we allow other people to tell us where we are and where we need to be. Sometimes we need wise counsel when we can't figure it out for ourselves. But when we rely on others, we end up with their thoughts and their perspective of us as our foundation, which we then build on.
Even the way that you love yourself will determine what kind of love you will allow other people to show to you. If you have poor or low self love, then anything that comes your way will seem like gold. If you don't usually put a lot of effort into your development then anybody trying to help you with that will seem like they are meddling or trying to change you.
So before you want to add people to your life and give them fancy titles, I would really recommend that in this third week of 2017, you do a bit of self reflection. Ask yourself these questions: Where am I? Who am I? Do I like who I am right now? Where am I going? And how does everybody in my life fit into that? If you answer these questions thoroughly and honestly, I assure you that you'll get through the year with greater confidence.
