She
She
lives in a world that always has an opinion about her.
She
lives in a society that always wants to tell her how to act, what to say and
what not to do.
She
lives in a world that is quicker to tell her how to dress, than to protect her.
She
lives in a world where staying indoors is just as dangerous as being on the
streets, because the one that was caressing her last night is the same one who
can plant a bruise on her cheek the next day.
She
is always being told what to do with her body.
She
is told to cover it up.
To
cover it up in a way that will make her look unattractive.
Cover it up in a way
that will make her look respectful.
Cover it up, so that eyes don’t get a
chance to undress her.
Cover it up, because too much flesh means that she’s
asking for it.
She’s asking to be catcalled, she’s asking to be harassed, and
she’s asking to be raped.
I
have never heard them tell men what to do with their bodies.
I have never heard
them tell men how to dress.
I have never heard them scold men for not acting like
gentlemen.
But
she is told to cross her legs.
She is told to not laugh too loudly.
She is told
to act like a lady…whatever that means.
Why
is it that they have so much to say about her, but are mute about his actions?
SHE
IS TIRED.
She
is tired of being called strong.
She is tired of being marriage material
because she’s domesticated.
She is tired of keeping quiet while the men around
her continue making all the decisions as if they hold all of the power and she
is only relevant when the house needs to be clean or when his needs are to be
met.
She
is tired of thinking twice when picking out an outfit.
She is tired of having
friends and sisters that are in abusive relationships.
She is tired of the
cycle of violence.
She is tired of bloody noses and shattered hearts.
She is
tired of empty promises and a self-centered kind of love.
She
wants to belong to herself.
She wants her body to be hers.
She wants her
opinions to be heard.
She wants to be able to say when she is not okay, and she
wants the response to be a comforting one and not one placing the blame on her.
SHE
IS TIRED.
She
is human first.
She
is feelings and thoughts.
She
is brains and beauty.
She
is compassion and love.
She
is superwoman, who still wants to help her fellow sisters.
But
even superheroes need a day off.
Even
superheroes need saving.
