Being with God Throughout the Day
As a full time student I sometimes find it hard to consistently have quiet time, time that is set aside specifically to be with God. This is the time I use to read through His word, pray, and meditate. Trying to live a balanced life when you have a 9 to 5 day every day, while trying to keep up with other responsibilities in life (keeping the apartment clean, cooking, visiting friends, etc.) can prove to be a challenge sometimes. But because my anchor is Jesus Christ, if I go even two days without quiet time I start unravelling. As Christians it is very important to spend time with God daily, as we can easily get sucked in by the pressures and stressors of life. I have found that we can steal away moments to be with God throughout the day. Today we'll be going through a few things that help me to stay consistent, I still fall off track sometimes but I always go back to these to help me. Let's get started!!!
1. Start Your Day with God
The moment that you open your eyes in the morning, you can say something to God. Even if it's just a thank you Jesus to acknowledge the fact that you are alive because of Him. In this smartphone era that we live in it's easy to grab your phone first before you even get out of bed. It's easy to scroll down your timeline before you put your feet on the ground. So when you programme yourself to acknowledge God and to say something to Him before you do anything else, you have already set a tone for how the rest of your day is going to go.
2. Have Breakfast with God
This is something that I love doing. Prepare your breakfast, find a quiet spot to sit and while you're eating or drinking your tea or coffee, read the Bible or start talking with God. Having a devotional book or a devotion on your phone can really make sure that you use this time optimally and constructively. You'll not only be feeding your body but you'll be feeding your spirit as well.
3. Listen to Praise and Worship Music
Listening to praise and worship music really helps to centre your thoughts and to focus on the One that deserves it. I'll sometimes listen to music while I'm getting ready in the morning or when I'm walking to school. Music can also help alter your mood. Let's say you woke up on the wrong side of bed or you're anxious about something, listening to songs that speak of God's goodness, power and love can help you remember that the One that made the universe has you in the palm of His hand and that He is able to turn anything around.
4. Surround Yourself with Fellow Believers
I am blessed to have friends that love the Lord and that serve Him. It is rare for us to have a conversation and not talk about God or His word. It is a great way to share what we're learning at the moment, things that we might be struggling with, and we're always learning from each other. This point is also very important because the conversations that you have or the things that you expose yourself to have an impact not only on your thoughts but also your actions. Having friends that will continually point you back to God is extremely important.
5. Schedule Time in Your Day Specifically for God
Some of the above mentioned tips, although great, can never substitute actually spending time with God. Find a time in the day when you are alert and most likely to be fully engaged. For some it might be first thing in the morning, for some it might be late at night. Whatever works for you is what you should do. We make time for the things that are important to us, so let's make God a priority in our lives.
I hope that you can take some of these tips and apply them in your own life, feel free to make them your own. If there are things that you do to make sure that you never miss out on quiet time, share with us by commenting below, would love to hear from you.
